Moreno Valley names new police chief

David Kurylowicz has been named Moreno Valley’s police chief.

A captain with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Kurylowicz will replace Joel Ontiveros, according to a recent statement on the city’s website.

Kurylowicz, a graduate of Moreno Valley High School, has 25 years experience in law enforcement.

He will be in charge of 160 sworn staff members and 45 civilian employees who provide a full-range of law enforcement services to the city, including patrol, investigations, special enforcement teams and burglary/robbery suspension.

“Our new Chief brings so much to this key position,” said Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez said in the statement. “His appointment as Moreno Valley’s Police Chief brings his stellar career full circle, and provides our community with a superbly talented law enforcement leader who understands the needs of local residents and businesses.”

Moreno Valley receives its police services through a contract with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
