Moreno Valley to help its residents attend college

Moreno Valley is partnering with Moreno Valley College to help city residents go to college.

Under the Promise Initiative, which was recently approved as a pilot program, the city will provide $50,000 during the next year to help pay for Moreno Valley residents’  first year at Moreno Valley College, according to a statement released Monday.

The money will  be used to supplement financial aid and pay for textbooks, tuition, parking and various fees.

In exchange for the financial help, all Promise Initiative students will be required to develop an agreement detailing their commitment to the program. That agreement will include completing a full load of courses while maintaining a 2.0 grade point average, according to the statement.
