On The Move

The Eastvale City Council will appoint a replacement for departing council member Jeff DeGrandpre rather than let voters fill the seat.

Three council seats will appear on the Nov. 4 ballot, all of which will be for four-year terms, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.

During Wednesday’s council meeting, Councilman Adam Rush expressed concern that voters might be confused by those terms and the two-year term that would replace DeGrandpre if his vacated seat were on the ballot. There was also concern that some candidates might file for a four-year and a two-year term, causing even more confusion.

The council voted 3-1 to fill DeGrandpre’s seat, with Councilman Richard Welch casting the dissenting vote.

Last month, DeGrandpre announced unexpectedly that he planned to step down from the council. He accused his fellow council members of engaging in illegal conduct, including holding a secret meeting, a violation of the state’s open-meeting laws.

Council members have denied DeGrandpre’s accusations.

Applications for the open seat may be posted on the city’s website – www.discovercorona.com – starting today.
