Jocelyn Millar, a professor of entomology at UC Riverside, has been awarded the Silver Medal for Career Achievement by the International Society of Chemical Ecology.
The award, which is given out annually, recognizes noteworthy contributions chemical ecology, the study of chemicals that mediate interaction between living organisms, according to a UCR statement.
Millar’s research concerns how insects use odors and taste to communicate with each other. His research team uses that information to help find and manage various insect populations, according to the statement.
“This is fantastic news and very well-deserved recognition for Dr. Millar,” said Rick Redak, chairman of the entomology department, in a statement. “The Silver Medal Award is a testimony to his outstanding competence and a lifetime of accomplishment within the area of chemical ecology.
Millar is the second UCR professor to receive the Silver Medal award. Professor Ring Cardé won the award in 2009, according to the statement.
