Carl Coles has been named the Bonita Unified School District’s Administrator of the Year for the 2013-14 academic year.
Coles, the district’s senior director of special education, was recognized for his constant work on behalf of the district’s special-education students, according to a report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.
A graduate of Chino Hills High School and a former minor league baseball umpire, Coles began his academic career in 2003 as a special-education instructor in Colton. He joined Bonita Unified in 2008, working as a program specialist at schools in La Verne and San Dimas.
Coles is credited with creating more tolerance towards special-needs students, especially those with Down Syndrome, and for bridging the gap between special-education and traditional students, according to the report.
