Despite strong criticism from high places, University of California President Janet Napolitano is standing by her proposal to raise tuition at UC
schools.
Napolitano wants to raise tuition up to five percent in each of the next five years, a move that has been criticized by Gov. Jerry Brown, Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom and Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins, according to an Associated Press report.
She reportedly defended her proposal during a recent visit with the Sacramento Bee’s editorial board.
Brown, Newsom and Atkins are all voting members of the UC Board of Regents. The board is scheduled to discuss the possible tuition hikes during its meetings Wednesday and Thursday in Sacramento, according to the report.
