National conference headed for Palm Springs.

Palm Springs will host the Neighborhoods, USA Annual Conference in May 2019.

Neighborhoods, USA is a non-profit  organization that helps build stronger communities, mostly through the sharing of information, ideas and “best practices,” according to a statement on the city’s website.

Palm Springs submitted its winning bid last month in Omaha, Neb. The bid was put together  by several groups led by representatives from Organized Neighborhoods of Palm Springs, which is made up of the city’s 43 organized neighborhoods.

The city manager, Office of Neighborhood Involvement, Palm Springs Convention Center and the Bureau of Tourism and the Greater Palm Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau are also part of that organization, better known as ONE-PS, according to the statement.

Neighborhoods, USA delegates will spend two days in workshops and informal discussions and will tour up to 20 Palm Springs neighborhoods.

“This will be a great opportunity to show off our city in a fresh and exciting way,” ONE- PS executive board member Eric Chiel said in the statement. “It’s not just about our City’s fantastic architectural legacy. It’s also about how the distinctive spirit, culture and evolution of our neighborhoods, makes each one uniquely appealing.”

This will be the first time Palm Springs will host a Neighborhoods, USA conference. An estimated 1,000 delegates are expected to attend, according to the statement.
