San Bernardino County has opened a building for its public defenders.
The new headquarters at 323 W. Court St. in San Bernardino is in the former First American Title building and is the latest addition to the city’s downtown justice district, according to a statement on the county’s website.
Opened June 2, the three-story building has two floors of offices and accommodates 120 employees. Besides allowing the public defender’s office to consolidate, the building also supports digital record keeping and has a training room that can be converted into a mock trial courtroom.
“This building symbolizes the board of supervisors’ trust and recognition of the need for a strong and well-funded public defender,” said Thomas Sone, public defender, in the statement. “This new environment fosters the overall well-being of our team and allows us to better serve our clients. It not only stands as a pledge to defend the rights and dignity of our clients but also provide equitable access to justice.”
