New K-8 school opens in Chino

A new public school has opened in The Preserve at Chino, a 38-acre master-planned community.

Legacy Academy K-8 School will serve more than 1,250 students in the Chino Valley Unified School District, according to C.W. Driver, the Pasadena-construction firm that built the school.

Work on the $51 million campus began two years ago. The school covers 73,000 square feet and consists of six one-story buildings that contain classrooms, science and STEM labs, physical education facilities, administrative offices, a library, kitchen, multipurpose room, a TK/kindergarten, and an outdoor amphitheater.

District official hope Legacy Academy will relieve overcrowding at nearby Cal Aero Preserve Academy, which recently went to a year-round schedule because it had so many students to accommodate.

“The new Legacy Academy school will help relieve the needs of Chino Valley Unified School District’s student overcrowding at The Preserve,” said John Kately, project executive at C.W. Driver Cos., in a statement.  “It is a welcome addition to the neighborhood with its state-of-the-art classrooms and specialty facilities.”
