Norco College has been ranked among the best community college’s in the United States for military veterans, the fifth time in six years the school has received that distinction.
Military Times magazine ranked Norco College the 17th best two-year college in the country on its recent “Best for Vets” list, which listed 28 colleges, according to a statement.
Only three other community colleges from California made the list: Pasadena City College, which ranked eighth, Sierra College in Rocklin, which ranked 20th and Southwestern College in Chula Vista, which ranked 23rd.
Hundreds of two- and four-year colleges, online schools, and career technical colleges were surveyed across the country. They were evaluated on their policies related to military and veteran students, academic outcomes, and military-supportive cultures.
The schools singled out as being best for military veterans have developed ways to support student veterans. For example, 60 percent of those surveyed have set up alert systems to let faculty and staff know when a veteran is having difficulty with a class so help can be provided.
Norco College has a 73 percent military retention rate and a 67 percent graduation rate, according to the statement.
