For the second time in less than a month, the U.S. House of Representatives has passed legislation that will help transfer the ownership of Ontario International Airport.
On June 21, the House passed a bill sponsored by Rep. Ken Calvert, R-Corona, designed to speed up the ownership change from the City of Los Angeles to the Ontario International Airport Authority.
Both parties agreed to that arrangement nearly one year ago, but details of the change are still being worked out.
On Monday, the House voted again on Calvert’s bill, only this time the legislation was part of the FAA Reauthorization Act, which will keep that agency solvent past the end of this week, said Jason Gagnon, spokesman with Calvert’s field office.
“It’s the exact same bill,” Gagnon said. “It got folded into the reauthorization bill, along with a lot of other bills, to keep things moving.”
Ontario officials have accused Los Angeles of neglecting Ontario International in favor of its other major property, Los Angeles International Airport, causing a major drop in traffic at Ontario International that coincided with the recession.
