OIA gets help from international carriers

International passenger traffic continues to carry the load at Ontario International Airport.

Overall passenger activity at the airport was up 1.4 percent year-over-year in July, according to Los Angeles World Airports, the agency that owns and operates Ontario International.

All of that increase, however, was on the international side of the ledger, where the passenger count was up 111.7 percent compared with July 2014. Domestic traffic was down 1.3 percent during that time.

Ontario International’s two international carriers – AeroMexico and Volaris – saw their combined passenger count rise from just short of 9,000 to 19,000 during the course of the year, according to data released Friday.

Southwest Airlines remained the number one airline at Ontario International, flying nearly 53 percent of all passengers who arrived and departed there, LAWA reported.
