OIA keeps adding passengers

Ontario International Airport’s traffic count rose significantly in the first six months of this year, according to data.

More than 2.4 million passengers used the airport during that time, a year-over-year increase of more than 11.5 percent, the Ontario International Airport Authority reported.

Approximately 2.3 million were domestic travelers, while more than 94,000 were traveling internationally.

In June, nearly 436,000 passengers – 412,000 domestic, 23,500 international – passed through Ontario International, a increase of 14.3 percent compared with June 2017. The international passenger count nearly doubled during that time, largely because in March China Airlines began offering daily flights to Taiwan.

The airport’s other two international carriers are AeroMexico and Volaris.

“We are gratified by the confidence our customers show in Ontario month after month,” said Alan D. Wapner, president of the Ontario International Airport Authority in the statement.

“[Ontario International]  management and staff work tirelessly to deliver a seamless and hassle-free customer experience that air travelers demand.”

Air cargo – freight and mail – totaled 351,640 tons during the first half of the year and 62,514 tons in June. Those were year-over-year increases of 17 percent and 16.8 percent respectively, the airport authority reported.
