Ontario’s lawsuit with Los Angeles regarding who should be in charge of Ontario International Airport is going to court.
Riverside County Superior Court Judge Gloria Connor Trask Wednesday order both sides back to court for trial on Aug. 17, following a motion hearing April 8, according to a report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.
An appellate court is expected to rule on whether Los Angeles should have to turn over nearly 400 documents related to the case.
Ontario is accusing Los Angeles, the owner of Ontario International, of neglecting that facility in favor of Los Angeles International Airport, its other major aviation property.
Passenger traffic at Ontario International, though up slightly during the past few months, has fallen during the past several years to levels not seen since the mid-1980s. Officials with Los Angeles World Airports, the city agency that operates Ontario International, have blamed the decline on the slow economy.
“Ontario looks forward to its day in court, and for Los Angeles to be held accountable for its inexcusable neglects of its obligations to promote air service development at Ontario,” Mayor Pro Tem Alan Wapner, who is also president of the Ontario International Airport Authority, was quoted as saying.
