OIA passenger count is up

August was another good month at Ontario International Airport.

Passenger traffic was up 2.26 percent in August compared with August 2014, according to data released Tuesday by Los Angeles World Airports

Ontario International upped its passenger count by more than 8,100 travelers, to a total of 368,631, during that time, LAWA stated in its monthly passenger report.

International traffic drove much of that increase, just as it has for much of this year.

AeroMexico and Volaris, the airport’s two international carriers, served 17,549 passengers last month, a 101 percent year-over-year increase.

“We’re absolutely pleased with these numbers,” said Maria Tesoro, spokeswoman for Ontario International. “We had a good summer, and we’re optimistic that our passenger count will stay up. Now we’re looking forward to good holiday season.”

About 40,000 tons of air cargo moved through Ontario International during August, an increase of 2.47 percent compared with August 2014. United Parcel Service, Federal Express and West Air were listed as the facility’s top three freight carriers.

Southwest Airlines, US Airways and American Airlines were the top three passenger carriers.

Los Angeles World Airports, or LAWA, is the city of Los Angeles agency that owns and operates Ontario International. It also owns Los Angeles International Airports.
