Ontario International Airport started 2018 with a bang.
Passenger traffic was up 10.6 percent year-over-year in January, while the amount of cargo shipments in and out of the airport was up more than 23 percent, according to data.
The airport’s passenger count was 374,977 during the first month of the year, up from 339,083 in January 2017.
That was the largest increase since November 2016, when Los Angeles World Airports – the agency that owns and operates Los Angeles International Airport – returned Ontario International to local control.
Ontario International has been on a roll since that transition happened: it accommodated 4.5 million passengers last year, a seven percent increase compared with 2016. Cargo shipments were also up 15 percent during that time.
“The remarkable increases in the January numbers reflect the continued confidence of our customers,” said Mark Thorpe, chief executive officer of the Ontario International Airport Authority, in a statement. “They have come to expect a secure, hassle-free experience at Ontario, and I am pleased to say we are meeting their expectations.”
