Omnitrans recognizes trio of employees

Three Omnitrans employees have been named the transit agency’s top employees for the second quarter of this year.

Coach Operator Manuel Acosta, Dispatch Supervisor Christina Gaeta and Mechanic Sergio Villasenor were cited for providing outstanding service by San Bernardino County’s largest public transit agency.

Acosta, a 20-year Omnitrans employee, was recognized for “providing excellent customer service” during COVID-19 by covering other driver’s shifts and working on his scheduled days off when necessary.

Gaeta, who began with Omnitrans as a coach operator 12 years ago, was credited with implementing several procedures that reduced lost bus service, a move that helped both the agency and its customers.

Villasenor, who joined Omnitrans 15 years ago, was honored for performing strict quality control procedures on the transit agency’s first four totally electric buses, which premiered in May. Villasenor also helped re-power several natural gas engines on buses to near-zero emissions.

Omnitrans carries an estimated 11 million passengers each year throughout its 480-square mile service area, which covers 15 cities and unincorporated parts of San Bernardino County, according to the agency’s website.
