Nikki Salas has been promoted to Apple Valley’s assistant town manager.

Salas, who has been the town’s director of human resources and risk management since October 2009, during that time has saved Apple Valley up to $300,000 a year by implementing various cost-saving programs, according to a statement on the city’s website.

Salas has more than 20 years experience in human resources as well as 17 years as a department manager. She spent seven years as the San Bernardino County Fire Department’s assistant human resources division manager.

“When all we hear about is the rising cost of health care, Nikki managed this year to reduce our costs by 30 percent for our [health maintenance organization] offering, and 60 percent for our [preferred provider organization] offering,” Town Manager Frank Robinson said in the statement.

“I have never experienced a more efficient [human resources] department than what we have in Apple Valley under Nikki’s direction.”
