Andrea Wulf, renowned author and historian and the recent winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Award in the science and technology category, is scheduled to speak at the 2016 ESRI User Conference.

Wulf will discuss her award-winning book The Invention of Nature: Alexander von Humboldt’s New World, which was published by Alfred A. Knopf.

Von Humboldt is considered one of the most influential naturalists and cartographers of the 18th and 19th centuries.

The five-day gathering, which is scheduled to begin Monday at the San Diego Convention Center, will offer a series of speakers, software workshops, and a large map gallery and technological demonstrations, according to a statement.

Esri is based in Redlands. The company is a global leader in GIS technology, which is a computer system that captures, checks and displays positions on the earth’s surface. Its technology is used by 350,000 organizations worldwide, including each of the 200 largest cities in the United States, according to the report.
