Cati Porter, executive director of the Riverside-based Inlandia Institute, and Frances J. Vasquez, the organization’s president and chief executive officer, have donated copies of Empire by Lewis deSoto to the San Bernardino Public Library.

Both women presented five copies of the 108-page book, which details de Soto’s growing up in the Cahuilla region, to library director Ed Erjavek during the Sept. 19 city council meeting, according to a statement.

That’s one copy for the Feldheym Central Library and one copy for each of the city’s branch libraries. In June, the pair made a similar donation of eight copies to the Riverside County Public Library, Porter said.

DeSoto is a distinguished photographer and professor of art at San Francisco State University. For the last three decades, his work has been displayed in solo and group shows throughout the United States.

The Inlandia Institute is a non-profit literary center that serves the Inland Empire, publishing regional writing in print an online, according to the statement.
