On The Move

Wayne Nastri has been named executive officer of the South Coast Air Quality Management District.

Nastri, who has worked for a number of environmental agencies during the past three decades, has served as the district’s interim executive director since April, according to a district statement.

“I am honored to be chosen to head the nation’s leading air agency,” Nastri said in the statement. “I look forward to continuing work with the governing board and staff as we move forward and implement strategic and progressive air quality policies to bring cleaner air to our region.”

During his eight months overseeing the district, the agency released its draft 2016 Air Quality Management Plan, which outlines how it plans to meet its clean air goals during the next 15 years. The district also began working with other clean-air agencies to petition the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to adopt tougher tailpipe emission standards for heavy duty trucks, according to the statement.

The district is the major air pollution control agency for most of the Inland Empire and Los Angeles County and all of Orange County.

Nastri’s appointment was announced earlier this month.
