Lifetime Riverside resident Henry W. Coil Jr. has received the city’s 2016 City Spirit Award.
Coil received the award from Mayor Rusty Bailey and the Riverside City Council during the March 28 council meeting, according to a statement on the city’s website.
“Henry Coil Jr. epitomizes what it means to be a Riversider,” Bailey said in the statement. “From his days at Poly High School to his leadership in both local government and the business community to his philanthropy, Henry has given back to Riverside every step of the way.”
Coil grew up in Riverside, earned an engineering degree from UC Berkeley and served in the U.S. Navy. He was president of Tilden-Coil Constructors in Riverside, one the most successful construction management companies in Southern California.
Coil led the renovations of the Riverside County Courthouse and the Riverside Museum of Art. Also, his firm built Riverside City College’s aquatic center and retrofitted its historic gymnasium, according to the statement.
