On The Move

Apple Valley Mayor Scott Nassif has been named WeTip Mayor of the the Year for 2017.

The award is given to one mayor every year as part of WeTip’s annual national conference, according to a statement on the city’s website.

Nassif, was first elected to the Apple Valley Town Council in 2002, is a longtime supporter of the Apple Valley Police Activities League and is a member of the Apple Valley Fire Prevention District’s board.

“I nominated Mayor Nassif because of his dedication to preserving the quality of life and keeping safety a top priority in Apple Valley,” WeTip Contract Manager Kristen Arnel said in the statement.

WeTip, an anonymous crime reporting hotline, was founded in 1972. The hotline has recorded more than 1.1 million reports on crime and has helped law enforcement seize more than $340 million in illegal drugs nationwide since then.

Since Apple Valley began its WeTip program 22 years ago, the town’s hotline has received more than 7,000 calls that have led to 184 arrests and 77 convictions, Arnel said in the statement.
