On The Move

Rafik Mohamed has been named dean of Cal State San Bernardino’s College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Mohamed, a published author and long-time academic administrator, is currently chair of the department of social sciences at Clayton State University in Georgia, according to a report in the San Bernardino County Sun.

Mohamed, who will begin work in August, will take over for Jamal Nassar, who is scheduled to retire at the end of the current academic year.

Mohamed has served at Clayton State since 2009. Before that, he served as chair and associate professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of San Diego, where he was twice named outstanding professor of the year.

He holds a master’s degree in social ecology and a doctorate in criminology, both from UC Irvine, according to the report.
