Lori Bettison-Varga, president of Scripps College, is stepping down to become director of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.
Bettison-Varga is scheduled to leave this fall, according to a report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.
Her appointment must still be approved by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
Bettison-Varga began at Scripps, a liberal arts school that is part of the Claremont Colleges, in 2006. Admission applications to Scripps increased 20 percent during her time there, the report stated.
Amy Marcus-Newhall, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty, has been named the school’s interim president as of mid-October, according to the report.
