On The Move

Chino Mayor Dennis Yates has announced that he will retire when his term expires next year.

Yates, who is serving his third four-year mayoral term, served three terms on city council dating back to 1992 before he was elected mayor, according to a report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.

Yates, 70, told the newspaper that he decided when he was running for re-election in 2012 that he would step aside when his third term ended. He spent several weeks telling friends and colleagues of his plans before making his decision public, the report stated.

Councilwoman Eunice Ulloa, who was mayor before Yates was first elected to that job in 2004, has indicated she would like to be mayor again. Meanwhile, Yates says he plan spend more time with his family and go fishing, according to the report.
