On The Move

Temecula City Councilman Chuck Washington has been appointed to serve on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors.

Gov. Jerry Brown announced the appointment Wednesday, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.

Washington, 62, is the first African-American to serve on the board.

He replaces Jeff Stone, who was elected to the state Senate last November. Stone’s four-year term expires next year, and Washington has said he intends to run for a full-term, the report stated.

Board chairman Marion Ashley praised Washington’s appointment, saying Brown made an excellent choice.

“It is wonderful once again to have a full complement on the Board of Supervisors and a representative for Third District residents,” Ashley said in a statement. “And it is truly momentous because Chuck is the first African-American to sit on the Board of Supervisors. I’m sure he will do a tremendous job.”
