Chris Thornberg has been named director of the Center for Economic Forecasting and Development at UC Riverside’s School of Business Administration.
Thornberg, a founding partner with Beacon Economics in Los Angeles, will also be an adjunct professor at the business school, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.
The center will begin operations next month.
UC Riverside wants an entity that publishes reliable economic forecasts while helping to work on economic development in the Inland Empire, the report stated.
Thornberg’s annual Inland Empire economic forecast will now also be UC Riverside’s forecast.
Thornberg was one of several economists who gained some notoriety in economic circles when he predicted the subprime mortgage crisis that leveled the U.S. economy in 2008.
