Skateboard champion Tony Hawk will serve as Community Grand Marshall in the 24th Annual Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade, scheduled for Dec. 5.
More than 100,000 people are expected to line the parade route along Palm Canyon Drive and Ramon Road to view the city’s major holiday event, according to a statement.
Parade highlights will include marching bands, floats filled with holiday lights and displays of Macy’s-style holiday balloons.
Santa Claus and his reindeer will also make an appearance on the Jackie Lee Houston Santa Claus Express, a float that is a regular attraction in the parade.
Hawk will be in town for the second annual El Gato Skateboard Competition and Block Party, which will be held Dec. 4-6 at the Palm Springs Skate Park.
“Tony Hawk is a fabulous addition to the Festival of Lights Parade, and we are excited [that] he will be joining us for this one-of-a-kind holiday event downtown,” said Tim Ellis, vice chair of P.S. Resorts, a group of hoteliers who are the presenting sponsor for the parade and skateboard event.
Parade entries will be accepted until Oct. 23. For more information call (760) 323-8276 or visit psfestivaloflights.com.
