Jeff Huang has been named Acting Dean of Students at Claremont-McKenna College.
Huang, vice president for Student Affairs, Admission and Financial Aid, replaces Mary Spellman, who resigned earlier this month amid student protests alleging racial discrimination on campus, according to published reports.
In a statement released Monday, President Hiram Chodosh praised Huang for taking the position during a difficult time for the college. Chodosh said Huang would play a role in the school’s short-term and long-term planning and called on all students to support him.
Huang was Claremont McKenna’s Dean of Students from 2003 to 2010 and was Associate Dean of Students before that, from 1995 to 2003.
Claremont McKenna officials have not said how long it will take to find Spellman’s permanent replacement.
