Oscar Valdez has been chosen to serve the remainder of Larry Walker’s term as San Bernardino County’s Auditor-Controller/Treasurer /Tax Collector.
Valdez, who has been an assistant to Walker since May 2011, was approved unanimously by the board of supervisors, according to a statement released Wednesday.
Walker is scheduled to retire March 5.
Seventeen people applied for the job, five of whom were interviewed. Valdez, who began working for the county in 2000, was the only county employee who applied for the position.
“We believe the county is very fortunate to have someone with Mr. Valdez’s talent, experience and knowledge of our county organization available to assume this great task at this time,” Board Chairman James Ramos said in the statement.
