Palm Springs begins work on bridge project

Construction on the South Palm Canyon Bridge project in Palm Springs is scheduled to begin March 10.

Work will include removing the median, adding signs, paving and striping, repairing potholes and completing environmental and utility work, according to a statement on the city’s website.

Traffic restraints are scheduled to start Monday, and last from 7:30 a.m to 3:30 p.m. daily during the duration of the project.

Long-term lane closures are expected on South Palm Canyon Drive between Sunny Dunes Road and Mesquite Avenue. One lane will be kept open for traffic, and access for pedestrians and cyclists will be kept in place.

Bridge construction is expected to start later this month, after the preliminary work is done. The new bridge, which is expected to be completed in late 2026, will span 98 feet and have two lanes in each direction.

The current bridge was built in 1930 and is structurally deficient, according to the statement.
