Palm Springs is encouraging its residents to participate in the upcoming U.S. Census.
Starting this month residents will receive by mail a census invitation, which may be returned by mail, telephone, email or via the internet at www.2020census.gov, according to a statement on the city’s website.
Answering the census is important because it determines whether Palm Springs, or any municipality, receives its proper share of federal funding. The census, which is conducted every 10 years, also helps determine how Congressional seats are allotted and where schools and hospitals are built.
By law, census information cannot be used by any court of law or government agency such as the FBI, Department of Homeland Security or by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
