Palm Springs to celebrate Measure J-funded project

Palm Springs city council members will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony July 3 at Victoria Park to mark the installation of playground equipment paid for by Measure J.

Members of the Measure J and Parks and Recreation commission are also set to attend the ceremony, which is scheduled to be held at 11 a.m., according to a statement one the city’s website.

Victoria Park is at 2744 N. Via Miraleste.

Following the ceremony, a free children’s festival featuring live music and water activities, interactive games will be held.

Measure J is a one-cent sales tax approved by Palm Springs voters in 2011. It provides revenue to maintain community services and improve the city’s downtown.

Revenue from  Measure J has helped pay for hundreds of miles street paving and upgrades to Dog Park, the police and fire stations and the restoration Welwood Murray Memorial Library and the Plaza Theatre, among other projects, according to the statement.
