San Antonio Regional Hospital in Upland has reached an affiliation agreement with City of Hope, the world-famous cancer treatment center in Duarte.
That agreement calls for City of Hope to develop an outpatient cancer center that will provide radiation oncology, medical and surgical oncology, chemotherapy and other cancer-related services, both parties announced Wednesday.
That treatment facility will be located in San Antonio Regional’s ambulatory center, which will be built across the street from the hospital’s main campus. Construction on that $160 million facility is expected to begin this year.
City of Hope will provide leadership for the treatment center, including medical directors for the oncology departments. The goal is to make it possible for Inland Empire residents to have access to a full range of cancer services within their own community.
“Meeting the needs of patients living in the Inland Empire is at the heart of this important affiliation,” said Harlan Levine, M.D., chief executive of City of Hope Medical Foundation in the statement. “Partnering with a high-quality, like-minded hospital like San Antonio Regional Hospital, allows us to further expand comprehensive cancer care-level expertise and services in the community, which will be much more convenient for the patients we serve.”
