The resurgence of Ontario International Airport during the past four years is the subject of a PBS program that will air next month.
“The Travel Detective with Peter Greenberg” will examine how Ontario International has added flights and upgraded its facilities since Ontario assumed its ownership from Los Angeles World Airport in November 2016, according to a statement.
Scott McCartney, travel editor for CBS News and a columnist for The Wall Street Journal, will look at secondary airports and Ontario International’s emergence as a top regional airport.
“Ours is a powerful story of perseverance and resurgence since the ownership change less than four years ago,” said Mark Thorpe, chief executive officer of the Ontario International Airport Authority, in the statement.
“Ontario Airport’s comeback as an international aviation gateway for Southern California is a testament to all who believed it could again be an attractive low-cost alternative for airlines and an economic engine for the Inland Empire.”
The episode is scheduled to air at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 on PBS SoCal 2.
It was produced shortly before the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic, which at one point cut Ontario International’s year-over-year passenger count by more than 90 percent, according to the statement.
