Pechanga tribe to open expanded casino and convention center

The Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians will hold a ceremony and concert March 3 to celebrate the $300 million expansion of its Pechanga Resort & Casino.

Tribal officials and local dignitaries will participate in a ribbon cutting, a VIP party will be held at the resort’s new 4.5-acre pool complex and Steven Tyler and the Nashville-based band Loving Mary will perform at the new Pechanga Summit event center, according to a statement on the tribe’s website.

The project, which broke ground in December 2015, is near completion.

“This $300 million project is a long-term investment to help cement Pechanga and the Southern California Wine Country as a complete and refined destination experience,” said tribal chairman, Mark Macarro in the statement.

“It’s the beginning of the next chapter of Pechanga Resort & Casino and an important milestone in our history. This expansion prepares our tribe for the next quarter century and positions our tribal government and community for success in the 21st century and beyond.”

After the expansion, the resort will have 200,000 square feet of casino space, 274,500 square feet of convention and meeting space, nearly 1,100 hotel rooms, 20 bars and restaurants and about 4,750 employees, according to the statement.
