State home sales continue to decline

Pending home sales down

Pending sales of single-family homes fell one percent nationwide in September, the largest month-over-month drop in five months, according to a report.

Transactions in which the seller has accepted an offer but the sale is not final were down in 30 of the 50 largest metro areas last month, Seattle-based Redfin reported.

The median home-sale price – $439,278 – rose 2.5 percent year-over-year, the largest increase in six months.

The number of homes for sale rose 8.4 percent, the smallest increase since the start of last year. Growth in new listings has slowed since spring, as the inventory of available homes is purchased.

“For buyers, there are deals to be made,” said Jason Gale, Redfin agent, in the statement.  “People who need to move are still house-hunting, and they’re finding that it’s a good time to negotiate with sellers, especially for homes that have been on the market for longer than a few weeks.”
