Perris library reopens

Perris recently hosted the grand reopening of the Cesar E. Chavez Library.

Mayor Michael M. Vargas, council members Malcolm Corona, David Starr Rabb, Riverside County Supervisor-elect Jose Medina, City Manager Clara Miramontes and County Librarian Barbara Howison were among the local dignitaries who attended the event, according to a statement on the city’s website.

The $1.2 million renovation of the building at 163 E. San Jacinto Ave. was done by the city and the county. It included interior and exterior painting, restroom renovations, interior lighting, new furniture, a reception desk and computers.

The goal was to improve the library’s functionality and appearance.

“I am grateful to our county partners, council, and library staff for driving this project forward,” Miramontes said in the statement. “Our team has elevated it by integrating art, education, technology, and history. “I commend our staff and contractors for their incredibly efficient and swift work in bringing this vision to life.”
