Perris opens first dog park

An estimated 100 people, many accompanied by their dogs, attended the grand opening Tuesday of Paws Dog Park in Perris.

The park, at 1265 Blazing Star Drive, is the first in the city open to canines, said Stephen Hale, the city’s public information officer.

Perris, which has considered establishing a dog park for years, was able to pay for the facility with help from PetSafe Bark for Your Park. It  was one of eight communities nationwide to receive a $25,000 grant from that program.

The three-acre facility includes areas for small and large dogs, agility equipment, training platform, benches and plenty of shade.

Total cost of the park, which took four months to build, was just under $116,000. Paws Dog Park will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week, Hale said.
