Perris to transfer water/sewer systems

Perris has decided to transfer its water and sewer systems to the Eastern Municipal Water District.

The Perris city council and the district’s board of directors have both approved the move, which Perris officials have been considering for several years as a way to reduce maintenance costs, according to a statement on the city’s website.

“For the past few years, the city has been evaluating options to either transfer or continue operating the two city systems,” the statement reads. “Given that the water and sewer systems continue to create an increase in maintenance costs and have been operating at a deficit, the city approached [the water district about the possibility of consolidation.”

Perris serves about 4,000 customers, some downtown and some in the northeast part of the city. Most resident are served by the district.

Once the transfer is complete – a process expected to take several months – all city residents will be district customers. The change will not affect fees or service, according to the statement.
