Plenty of applicants for open council seat

Twenty four people have applied to fill a vacant seat on the Temecula City Council.

The seat, vacated by Chuck Washington last month when he was appointed to fill an open seat on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors, will be filled by appointment rather than with a special election, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.

Whoever is selected will finish Washington’s term, which expires next year.

Applications doubled during the last hours leading up to the filing deadline, which was 5 p.m. last Friday, the report stated.

The council is scheduled to conduct public interviews with each of the applicants during a meeting Monday. A decision is expected to be made during the April 28 council meeting, according to the report.
