Corwin Porter is stepping down as San Bernardino County’s public health director.
A 32-year county employee, Porter’s retirement is effective Saturday, according to a statement on the county’s website.
Andrew Goldfrach, chief operating officer at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and a coordinator of the county’s COVD-19 vaccination program, will serve as Porter’s interim replacement.
Porter has served as public health director since May of last year. Before that he was assistant public health director and chief of the department’s Environmental Health Services Division.
“Corwin has worked tirelessly to protect the health of our county community for more than three decades, and for the past year he has been the calm and steady voice of the county’s effort to overcome COVID-19,” said Curt Hagman, chairman of the board of supervisors, in the statement. “It’s hard to think of anyone who deserves to hang up his coat and tie more than he does.”
