Proposed law would crack down on massage parlors

State legislators have passed a bill that would regulate massage parlors.

The Massage Therapy Reform Act, which has yet to be signed by Gov. Brown, replaces a massage therapy law passed six years ago, according to multiple reports.

If approved by the governor, the law will give municipalities greater authority to regulate massage businesses and reduce the number of those that are fronts for prostitution and human trafficking.

Cities have complained that the 2008 law did not allow them to target massage businesses, according to the reports.
