Yvonne Wise has been named director of Palm Springs parks and recreation.

Wise, who holds the same title with the Port of San Diego, is scheduled to begin in work in Palm Springs June 27, according to a statement on Palm Springs’ website.

Wise began working for the port authority in 2007. The port authority is a state agency with jurisdiction over 34 miles around San Diego Bay, a territory that includes piers, athletic fields, 22 parks, two cruise ship terminals and an aquatic center.

Before working in San Diego, Wise was Philadelphia’s public art director, where she oversaw the city’s municipal art collection and directed public art programs.

“Yvonne Wise’s 20 plus years of municipal experience leading parks and recreation and public art programs will serve her well in Palm Springs,” City Manager Justin Clifton said in the statement. “We are fortunate to be getting her talent and expertise and I am excited to welcome her to the executive management team.”
