Redlands to fill open council seat

Thirteen people have signed up to fill a vacant seat on the Redlands City Council.

The applicants are vying to replace Councilman Pete Aguilar, who was elected to Congress in November, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.

Applicants had from Dec . 17 until Monday to submit their bids.

All 13 candidates are required to attend next Tuesday’s council meeting, during which each will give a five-minute presentation to the council, and answer questions.

Each of the would-be council members have already filled out a questionnaire asking them what they believe is the most important issue facing the city and how it should be addressed, why they believe they’re the most qualified candidate and to name a local issue they care about.

Aguilar’s replacement will be selected at the end of that process. That person will serve out the remainder of Aguilar’s term, which ends in November 2016, according to the report.
