A research and innovation project is under construction at UC Riverside.
SoCal Oasis Park will bring research, education and entrepreneurship under one roof, according to a statement on the university’s website.
SoCal Oasis Park is the first entity that is part of SoCal Oasis, a public-private partnership led by UC Riverside. Its goal is to drive economic development through research, innovation, entrepreneurship.
Oasis is an acronym for Opportunities to Advance Sustainability, Innovation, and Social Inclusion.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held June 23. The building Is expected to be completed by the spring of 2027.
“The park represents an anchor location for collaboration with community, private sector, and local government partners,” said Rodolfo Torres, UC Riverside’s vice chancellor for research and economic development, in the statement, “It exemplifies our commitment to the creation of an ecosystem in the region based on research and innovation.”
The 39,000-square-foot building is being built on 3.4 acres on University Avenue near the campus’ west entrance. That site was formerly occupied by the university’s Extension Center, which was recently leveled, according to the statement.
