Kohl’s announced Wednesday that it will hire more than 67,000 temporary workers during the upcoming holiday season.
The Wisconsin-based department store chain, which operates 19 stores in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, plans to hire about 50 workers per store, with hiring levels varying depending on need, according to a company statement.
About 9,300 people will be hired at Kohl’s distribution centers nationwide, and approximately 670 workers will be brought on to fill operations involving credit operations.
Hiring at distribution centers began in August and started as stores this month. All positions are expected to be filled by mid-November.
Kohl’s operates 1,163 stores in 49 states. Its supplementary hiring could be a sign that the 2014 Christmas shopping season could be stronger than the past few years, said Chris Thornberg, principal with Beacon Economics in Los Angeles.
“It’s looking like a good Christmas,” Thornberg said. “We have better income numbers and credit is expanding, and both of those are good signs.’
