Riverside County’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2026-27 shows a county economy in flux.

The $10.3 billion budget reflects a slowdown in revenue, an increase in operating costs, and a greater demand for services, according to statement on the county’s website.

“Despite these challenges, the proposed spending plan continues to prioritize the services residents rely upon most, while preserving the county’s long-term financial stability,” the statement reads.

The budget includes more than $5.5 million remaining in American Rescue Plan Act funds, $53.6 million for development of the Behavioral Health Youth Wellness Village, $9.1 million to support CalFresh food and grocery assistance for low-income families, $351 million in transportation projects, and nearly $5 million for more firefighters.

“This budget reflects the realities facing Riverside County and communities across California,” said Board Chair Karen Spiegel in the statement. “We look forward to hearing from the community as we work to approve a budget that serves the interests of all Riverside County residents.”

The board is scheduled to hold public hearings on the budget at its regularly scheduled meeting June 8. The budget is scheduled to be adopted June 23.
