Riverside County establishes guidelines for ranchos

Riverside County has approved regulations regarding ranchos in the Coachella Valley.

The ordinance, which the board of supervisors approved unanimously June 28, sets standards for noise, trash, access for first responders, parking, traffic and land-use, according to a statement on the county’s website.

It mandates 40 percent agriculture use and 20 percent date palms, which will create safety and wellness for the community.

Ranchos are located in rural parts of the Coachella Valley. They are large agricultural properties used by families to hold events – mostly outdoors – including weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and baptisms.

The ordinance, which was championed by Supervisor V. Manuel Perez, will be given a second reading in July and will take effect 30 days later, according to the statement.
